They are often playing the game that is part of that day's Everyday Mathematics lesson, but they may also be playing a game that they have played in the past that corresponds to the concepts in the unit. Service Learning offers the opportunity to link academic learning with community service. We have found that such work gives students opportunity to engage in mathematics as a sense making activity and directly relates to their work in computation. Example 2: Ask pupils to find the sum of two odd numbers like 3+5=8, 5+7=12, 9+11=20, etc. This means that, as always, teachers need to be prepared.
